Rice - Dal Vadai / Rice - Lentil Fritters
Deep-fried fritters made using mixed dals and spices. It is rich in proteins and is a good option for snacks. These can be served with chutney/dip.

Ingredients
- Idly Rice – 1 Cup
- Toor dal - 1/3 Cup
- Chana Dal - 1 tbsp
- Urad Dal - 1 tbsp
- Red Chillies – 2-3
- Green Chillies - 2-3
- Curry leaves
- Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
- Coriander leaves
- Onion (Chopped) – 1
- Salt – Per taste
Directions
Batter preparation:
- Soak Idly Rice, Toor Dal, Chana Dal, and Urad Dal in a bowl for about 2 hours.
- When Rice and Dal are completely soaked, transfer to a mixer grinder.
- Grind into a smooth batter consistency by adding rice, dal and other ingredients such as Red chillies, Green chillies, curry leaves, and Asafoetida.
- Transfer the batter to a mixing bowl.
- Add salt, coriander leaves, and onion to the ground mixture and mix well. You can also add little water if the batter is too thick.
- Once mixed, start making vadai.
Making Vadai:
- To a Kadai, add sufficient oil for frying. To check whether the oil is ready, drop a little bit of batter into the oil, if it is fried and floats on top the oil is ready to use.
- Wet your fingers and use your fingers to take the batter and gently drop it into the oil. If you find using spoons convenient you can also use spoons to drop the batter into the oil.
- Fry on medium flame. Fry the Vadai in batches. DO NOT OVERCROWD the vadai’s.
- When one side turns into the golden brown flip to the other side.
- Fry until the other side also turns golden brown.
- Remove and place it on a plate lined with tissue paper.
- Yummy Rice Dal Vadai is ready!!!! Serve immediately with chutney/dip.
