Spicy Maida Appam - Instant Spicy Appam

A Simple and quick evening snack that can be served along with chutney or sauces. You can please your kids by preparing this delicious spicy appam in under 40 mins of time.

Ingredients

Ingredients 1:

  • All-purpose flour or Maida - 1 Cup
  • Curd/Yogurt – 3 tsp
  • Water – As required


Ingredients 2 -Masala Paste:

  • Ginger (Chopped) - 1 tsp 
  • Green Chillies - 2-3
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves - 1 tsp
  • Mint/Pudina – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds/ Jeera - 1 tsp
  • Salt – Per taste
  • Asafoetida/Kayam/Hing - 1/4 tsp

Directions

Masala Paste Preparation:

  • To a mixer grinder, add Ingredients 2 – Masala Paste and grind into a fine paste by adding a little quantity of water.
  • Masala Paste is ready. Keep aside.

Appam batter preparation:

  • To a mixing bowl add Ingredients 1 (except water) and masala paste. Mix well.
  • Add required water to form a smooth dosa batter consistency.
  • Mix it evenly to avoid lumps. Smooth batter will be formed and keep it aside for about 30 mins.
  • After 30 mins, mix the batter again. Start making Appams.

Frying Appams:

  • To a Kadai, add sufficient oil for frying appams. To check whether the oil is ready, drop a little bit of batter to the oil, when it is fried and floats on the top, the oil is ready to use.
  • Use a ladle to scoop tiny portions of batter and gently drop it into the oil. Fry on low flame.
  • When one side turns into golden brown, flip to the other side, fry until the other side also turns golden brown.
  • Remove and place it to a plate lined with a tissue paper.
  • Spicy Appam is ready!!! Serve immediately with chutney/sauces.

Point to be noted

  • Fry appam in batches. Do not overcrowd the Appam in the Kadai.
